Securing Your Collection

If you’re a wine collector, you’d know the immense costliness of buying and storing wine. It really is a huge investment, especially if you have reached the level of taking the step of storing it in a wine cellar or any other storage facility. You don’t want to risk losing some of those precious bottles due to things like break-ins. That’s why, when you’re interested in storage, you need to pay attention to things like the security systems that are in place. Ensure that there is limited access to the facility, because you don’t want just anyone waltzing into the facility and waltzing out with some of your best wine bottles. You need to ensure that there are technologies in place to limit the people who can access your collection, or else you can lose quite a bit of money. Make sure the facility has proper doors and locks. If people notice that the doors and locks to the facility are easy to get around, then they’ll probably take a shot at getting past them. Kill their motivation by ensuring that there are heavy duty doors and locks that can resist break-in attempts. A facility with iron clad doors would be great! Is there surveillance? Motion or heat sensitive cameras are great. They don’t record every minute of footage, just the activity that is happening when there is movement of some sort of heat in the cellar. Check with the facility to see if they have or intend to have these cameras. Integrated alarm systems are great too. If there is anything that presents a risk to the wine in the cellar, the alarm goes off. We don’t only mean a smoke alarm system. We’re talking about a system that is “sensitive to motion, heat, smoke and unauthorized entry through a door or window”. You should check to see if the storage facility you’re looking at has one or more of these structures in place to secure your precious bottles.
