Various Wine Bottles
Did you know that you can tell a lot about wine, based on the type of bottles it comes in? When you have an idea about the major types of wine bottles, you can figure out what types of wine are likely to be inside. • The High Shoulder bottle: It is the most common type of wine bottle. This bottle is usually used for Merlot, Cabernet Sauvignon and white wines made with Sauvignon Blanc. The bottle style was made popular by Bordeaux. • The Sloping Shoulder bottle: This bottle is usually used for most oak-aged white wine. Pinot Noit, Grenache, Chardonnay and Syrah commonly come in this type of bottle. • The Sparkling Wine and Champagne bottle: These bottles are usually heavier in comparison to the other bottle types. They’re made this way, because they must withstand the pressure of the seven earth atmospheres inside them. Some may have punts underneath them, while some may not. • Various Dessert Styles bottles: They’re actually used for ornate purposes. The wine producers will place their custom stamps or seals and they often differentiate their styles of dessert wines, based on the differentiated styles of bottles. • The Unique Bottles: Wine bottles haven’t really changed that much actually. They’re actually pretty much the same design from 100 years ago. They’re not as unique as the bottle styles for spirits, but they can be differentiated from the other types of wine bottles we’ve briefed you on. Take a look at the bottles in your collection and see if you can tell which type of design category they fall into.
