Wine Storage For The Average Joe Wine Collector

Not everyone that drinks wine is a huge enthusiast. They don’t all have a huge collection or a reputable level of consumption. They don’t all care about the thrills of wine-collector life or the perks of storing their bottles in cellars for years. Speaking of storing your wine for years, you may want to take a look at that again. Not all bottles of wine were meant to be aged. Did you know that about 95% of wines are actually made ready to drink? They’re actually much cheaper to manufacture; and that’s right – they don’t need to stay and age for 40 years or even 4 years. Keeping your wines in a cellar may maintain those wines that are made “ready to drink” for a longer time, but their taste won’t be improved a bit. In fact, if you store the wines for years, you risk them losing their lovely savor. There was actually a study done on all the wines bought from the Liquor Control Board of Ontario (LCBO) and it was concluded that the average length of time that the wine was left to mature in the cellar was just around 14 hours. If you really intend on storing these wines, you should make sure that they’re stored for about 8 to 12 months, in these conditions: - Out of direct sunlight - In temperatures of around 4 degrees Celsius and 18 degrees Celsius - In a non-fluctuating temperature (or one that only fluctuates 2 or 3 degrees Celsius, infrequently) - In humidity levels that are more than 50% If you don’t do these things, your wine may spoil or pass its prime in just a few months. You don’t want that to happen. We can offer you professional grade wine storage for your wine collection and we can also get advice about storing your wine at home.
