Jonathan and Allison Brett have long dreamed of a business they could go into together that would utilize their individual knowledge and strengths – his being Sales and Customer Service, and hers being Real Estate Accounting. The Self Storage business came to mind because, as George Carlin used to say, “We all need a place for our stuff”. They had a small boat that they were not allowed to park in their complex at home and had to look for a facility to store it in for the winter that was safe as well as economical, and “VOILA! Why not have their own Self Storage facility!” They looked around for properties near their hometown and decided Hardyston was rural enough for their dream company - a State-of-the-Art facility with classy looks, wine storage and cedar storage, at affordable prices. As Highlands Self Storage was being built, its future manager, Ginny Lutton, drove by daily. She was tired of her hour-long commute and her many years as a customer service rep in a large corporation that was about to close. So she chanced a call to the number on the big new sign so close to her home. Perhaps they needed somebody at the desk? The rest, as they say, is history. The 3 person ‘team’ held a Grand Opening on October 18, 2008 and the beautiful Highlands Self Storage has been a welcome addition to the area, differing from others in that it offers 24 hour access and video surveillance, climate controlled units, RV and Commercial parking, with NO Security Deposit. And, the office is open 7 days per week! Highlands Self Storage also sponsors a Wallkill Valley Youth Basketball team. Next…on to phase two of the dream – the Wine Storage and Cedar Lined units!
