Wine Storage, Galore!
For wine storage, there is no longer any generic bottle size or wine rack for storage. Bottles are coming in all different shapes, sizes and thicknesses. You want to find wine storage that looks good for your prized collection. What you need to do first is assess your collection. Most bottles are 3 inches in diameter and have high shoulders. Those are the standard bottles and they usually fit quite well in most wine racks and refrigerators. Other bottles may be a half inch wider in diameter, with long bodies and slim necks. Then there are bottles which are 4 inches wide (magnum bottles), they can hold 1.5 liters of wine and they’re equal to two standard wine bottles. Standard wine racks can hold a number of different bottles, with different sizes, actually. Here are the bottle types below: • Standard: 3.25 inches – 3.5 inches • Champagne: 3.75 inches – 4 inches • Magnum: 4.5 inches – 4.75 inches You should try to figure out the types and sizes of wine bottles you have and ask yourself these questions if you plan on getting a wine rack yourself: • What are the different sizes of bottles you have in your collection? • How many bottles of wine do you have now? • How many bottles do you want to have in the future? • Where will you store it?
